On the 22nd of February 2023, Ms. Priyanka Khandekar conducted a Flower Arrangement Workshop at the Sheila Raheja Institute of Hotel Management (SRIHM) for the RDM specialisation students of TYBSc (HS) in the Housekeeping lab.
Ms. Khandekar taught the students various flower arrangements, including Moribana, which falls
under the umbrella of Ikebana – The Japanese Flower Arrangement style, as well as Western Flower Arrangement style. The workshop covered the measurements of various elements in a flower arrangement, angles of placement for different elements, and the position of the arrangement in a room. A wide range of flowers and foliage were used during the workshop, including Zumelia flowers, Gypsophila flowers, English Fern leaves, and The Song of India stems. The students were given a chance to practise flower arrangement themselves under the guidance of skilled professionals. The key takeaways from the workshop were the knowledge about different flower arrangement styles & principles and the importance of measurements and angles in a flower arrangement. The students learned about the position of the arrangement in a room and the importance of the subject of the arrangement. They gained knowledge about the type of flowers and plants to use for a specific occasion, and how to design an aesthetically pleasing flower arrangement. The workshop was a great success, and the students were grateful to both the college and Ms. Khandekar for organising and conducting such a useful event.
